A Glitter Galaxy - from guest blogger Diana Perez

A Glitter Galaxy - from guest blogger Diana Perez

Hello everyone! My name is Diana and I am a watercolor artist. I graduated college with a Bachelor's degree in fine arts in 2019 and I now teach art to elementary aged children.

If you know anything about me, you'll know that I love using glitter in my work which is why I'm back with more ideas on how you can incorporate glitter watercolors into your art. Today I'm going to show you how you can use Smiling Hippo watercolors to create a vivid and glittery outer space scene.

First things first, gather your supplies. For a space theme I like to use purples, pinks, bronzes, and blues. However, you can use any colors you like because planets come in all colors.

I like to start off by painting the background in a solid color. Glitter makes a perfect background because all the tiny glitter specks look like stars. After I finish the first layer, I like to add in a second color. I do that so it can add dimension to the painting. Adding a second color or even a third color to the background can give the illusion of a galaxy.

After the background is complete you can start working on the planets. All you have to do is paint a circle in whatever color you want your planets to be. Then, to add more detail to it, add in a second color to your circle. Make sure you add the second color while the first layer is still wet. This will make the second color spread seamlessly and make your planet look more realistic.

After you finish painting your planets, you can then add moons, stars, and suns.  Also, if you want to add more variety to your planets, you can always add rings to certain planets, similar to Saturn’s rings. Lastly, for even more variety, you can also use metallic and glow in the dark watercolors to compliment the glitter.

And there you have it, another idea for how to use glitter watercolors. Until next time!
